Before the author presents her formal thesis, or argument, how does she "hook" the reader?

  1. She "hooks" her reader by saying that her kids talked about art in Spanish and how they made movies. Any teacher could do that. You don't have to be in a year round school to do awesome experiments...

  5. He/she tells what their kids have been learning and how much fun they're having. Pretty much saying this is what you could be doing at school.

  6. The hook was the author saying odd things like her children going to Harry Potter class and computer editing.

The hook the author uses is that she tells what her children are doing in school and when you read "My second-grade daughter went to school the other day and made potions in her Harry Potter class. My son's class of fourth- and fifth-graders wrote movie scripts, filmed them and learned how to edit the on a computer." you think wow this school seems different and maybe in a good way too.

  16. she hooks the reader by starting out saying that "My second-grade daughter went to school the other day and made potions in her Harry Potter class. My son's class of fourth- and fifth-graders wrote movie scripts, filmed them and learned how to edit them on the computer." and i think that when i saw harry potter and movie scripts that made me interested in reading the rest because they are very popular things and the interest me and a lot of other people as well.
